![]() The sounds emanating from these speakers are so good that it becomes addictive that one can listen for hours on end. This amp/preamp combination sounds powerful and brings out the best in these speakers and create a huge soundstage with lots of detail and musicality especially via vinyl playback such as my Linn LP12 Ittok Lingo.Īlso sounds very good with good cd recordings. These speakers are driven by Classe 30 preamp and Classe 70 amp which is rated at 75 watts per channel with ease. I listen to jazz, pop, orchestral, classical, rock from Diana Krall, Ella, Louis Armstrong, Sade, Whitney Houston,G Benson,Yellowjackets,Bob James, Earl Klugh, Pink Floyd,Keb Mo,Art Pepper,Miles Davis,Bebu Silvetti,The Eagles, and many more. The same can be said with all types of music. Soundstage is awesome and vocalists seem to fill the room with the rest of the band. Bass sounds huge and tuneful and articulate. My room is not small nor large and the bass response is amazing. 20+2+0.1).I have had these speakers new after having traded in my old MG 1 during the late 80s and have been providing me with endless hours of music and great sound. For the tweeter you can use whatever combination of Sonicaps Danny recommends that total to 22uF (e.g. You can take the stack of Solens from the tweeter (22uF total), add a 3uF Sonicap to take it to 25uF, and use that in the woofer circuit. The woofer inductor is a 19ga iron core, which you should upgrade with a 12ga (same DCR as the iron core) Alpha Core. I've included a link to a schematic below. Needless to say the new parts won't fit into the space occupied by the stock parts, so I placed them into a 6X8 plastic box from Radio Shack that I attached to the back of the speaker over the original crossover chamber. Now the good news is the 1.6 has a simple 1st order tweeter, 2nd order woofer crossover that's easy to upgrade. The difference was so great that after the comparison one member said "they aren't even the same speakers". I upgraded the crossover on a pair of 1.6's, and at a Houston Audio Society meeting we compared them to another member's stock pair. ![]()
